Suffering, Ambition and Me

Something shone brightly during my lunch time reading today.

“If a person holds no ambitions in this world, he suffers unknowingly. If a person holds ambitions, he suffers knowingly, but very slowly.”
Alan Lightman
pg 47 Einstein’s Dreams

A bit later, I came across this quote while digging around the ‘net.

“May all that have life be delivered from suffering”
Gautama Buddha

Both of these statements have such a ring of truth for me. But how is that possible when they are, by their very nature, conflicting sentiments. How can we be delivered from suffering when both ambition and no ambition are in turn sufferable?

I don’t have an answer for this in the least.

Looks like I have my meditation for the day.
